The Spotlight Series
Local health care,
in their own words.
We sit down with the doctors, physios and specialists we refer to every week — so patients in Phnom Penh know who they're being sent to, and why.
Episode 01
Dr Nadia Wong
Medical Doctor, Phnom PenhGood healthcare isn’t only about treating illness. It’s also about identifying risks early, understanding your body and taking action before a problem begins to affect your life.In the first episode of Movement Spotlight, we sit down with Dr Nadia for a practical conversation about preventive health. She explains the “three highs” commonly seen in Cambodia—high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar—and why these conditions can go unnoticed without regular checks. We also discuss what people should pay closer attention to after the age of 40, why runners can benefit from health checks tailored to the demands of their training and why visiting a doctor shouldn’t be something we only do when we feel unwell. We created Movement Spotlight to make trustworthy health information more accessible by introducing the healthcare professionals working in our Phnom Penh community. Each conversation is designed to help you ask better questions, understand your options and make more informed decisions about your health.
Episode 02
Dr Mark Ambrose
Medical Doctor, Phnom PenhIn this episode of Movement Spotlight, Mark Chen sits down with Dr. Mark Ambrose, founder of Family Clinic in Phnom Penh. After more than 20 years practising medicine in Chicago, Dr. Mark moved to Cambodia and established Family Clinic to provide accessible Western medical care to both Cambodians and expats. Nine years later, the clinic offers comprehensive medical services while also training Cambodian doctors through its family medicine residency program. In this conversation, we discuss:
• How prolotherapy, PRP and stem-cell therapies are used
• When regenerative medicine may offer an alternative to surgery
• A Movement client who returned to tennis after PRP and rehabilitation
• Why imaging and collaboration improve patient care
• The importance of strength, muscle mass and staying active as we age
• Healthcare differences between Cambodian and expat patients
• Testosterone replacement therapy, peptides and medication quality in Cambodia
• Dr. Mark’s work supporting underserved communities and training local doctors
Dr. Mark also explains why regenerative medicine remains underused in Cambodia and why injections alone are rarely the complete answer. The best outcomes often come from combining the right medical treatment with structured rehabilitation and progressive exercise.
